Character information
Name: Lan
Age: 317 (or thereabouts)
Date of Birth: …nebulous. Lan has been visiting Earth for about 150 years, but it's rude to outright ask a lady or lady-like being her age.
Canon: OC.
Species: Fae

Role: Art dealer, information broker, general resolver of personal problems.

Rank: Knight of the Seelie Court.

Background:
Lan had been visiting the moral realm on and off until the mid 1860s, when she first heard about the Salon jury rejection of Manet's Le déjeuner sur l'herbe. She managed to see the painting, promptly fell in love in that odd, obsessive fae-manner and promptly chose to spend an increasing amount of time on Earth.

Currently, she runs a small, but well respected shop that specializes in ephemera and curiosities. It's less about making a profit and more to provide a place for her run the rest of her business from - art dealing, trading in usual (or unusual) items, and possibly the occasional bit of information dealing. If asked, she'd assert that it's wise to keep her fingers in a variety of pies.

Lan is a petite humanoid (5'4") -- to human eyes she seems strangely proportioned, more elongated than a human should be. She is faintly reptilian with smooth, pale non-scaled skin (patterned like stingray skin) with chromophoric scales along the sides of her neck, down her spine, and a patch at the hollow of her throat. Her teeth are regular and human-looking, but she does have fangs that can retract and fold up against the roof of her mouth. She is completely hairless (no eyelashes) with large, almond shaped eyes with round pupils and a pale golden iris covered by a nictitating membrane.

Given choice, Lan wears a plain linen sarong. She does not wear a shirt or jewelry. While she can take on a human appearance, she rarely does among those she knows well. She may choose to hide herself while going to a concert or show, if only so it doesn't startle the performers.

Personality:
Lan's mission is to seek out and appreciate beautiful things. She defines beauty as 'purity of purpose', which leads her to admire some strange things. A painting can be beautiful, but by her standards, so can an effective explosive device. So long as a person or thing is true to what it's meant for, she's pleased by it. She is particularly repulsed by people (especially fae) that are not true to their nature.

Lan is uniquely suited to explore the known (and unknown) in search of beauty because she has a vivid imagination, confidence, a willingness to explore, and a deep, appreciation of beauty in all its varied forms. Lan is fiercely independent, and prides herself on being self-sufficient and resourceful. She makes decisions efficiently, sometimes brutally, and trusts her instincts. While she can create and enact detailed long-term plans, she loves to be spontaneous and is easily distracted by novelty.

She is an explorer, willing to travel great distances in the service of her mission. She is eager to seek new and varied experiences and this leads her into both good and bad situations. She would much rather immerse herself in the world than sit back on the sidelines and watch it go by -- observation is all well and good, but it doesn't really give the flavour of the thing.

She is outgoing, comfortable with others, and up for anything. Parties and crowds don't tire her and she enjoys having an active and varied social life -- going to a concert, going to watch jello wrestling, or just walking along the beach are all viable and interesting options.

Lan is from a profoundly different culture and while she has spent some time among humans, she doesn't always understand why others feel the way they do, but that doesn't stop her from trusting them or having faith that they are good people. As a part of her nature, she accepts that the world is complicated and there is often more than one side to a story and, consequently, she tends to weigh opposing viewpoints and is careful not to make judgments about others too hastily.

Lan is an independent thinker and isn't self-conscious about being active and engaged person in the world around her. In her mind, it's a cardinal sin to be in the world and not do anything but watch. Her advice on how to be a good person would be to observe first, then be open, be honest, tell people what you think, try to change what you don't agree with, debate and argue.

Powers & Possessions:
Lan remains true to the Seelie court and revels in order, light, and beauty, but her personal moral code is somewhat flexible when it comes to what is or is not beautiful. This has caused some conflict between herself and the rest of the court, but given that she spends much of her time on Earth and well away from conflicts in the Other Realm, it's something she's been able to manage without being cast out. (So far.)

Abilities:
Can take on human form
Can grant wishes or bestow powers for a price
Venomous is if I bite you: Lan has a pair of neatly hidden fangs that allow her to deliver a nasty bite with a potent magical toxin. I'd like for it to cause something like a dream-hallucination-fugue state, but if that doesn't' work in game, that's fine.
But, poisonous is if you bite me: with vampires generally being quite fond of fae-blood, I rather like the idea of her blood having an additional soporific or surreal effect.
??? I'd like to come up with something super rad and weird and usual, but nothing has struck me just yet. If it does, I'll write to the modteam and ask for it.

World building

Locations:
Kunstkammer
A small, tidy shop filled with all manner of ephemera and art. Lan has a particular fondness for well-drawn maps.

Items:
In her store, there might be a handful of low level magical charms or trinkets, but she mostly deals in art and curiosity. Nothing well-known enough to really deserve an item entry.

Magic:
I should figure out something suitably weird. HRM.
